Original Items: Only One Lot of 5 Available. A badge is a device or accessory, often containing the insignia of an organization, which is presented or displayed to indicate some feat of service, a special accomplishment, a symbol of authority granted by taking an oath (e.g., police and fire), a sign of legitimate employment or student status, or as a simple means of identification. They are also used in advertising, publicity, and for branding purposes. Police badges date back to medieval times when knights wore a coat of arms representing their allegiances and loyalty.

Badges can be made from metal, plastic, leather, textile, rubber, etc., and they are commonly attached to clothing, bags, footwear, vehicles, home electrical equipment, etc. Textile badges or patches can be either woven or embroidered, and can be attached by gluing, ironing-on, sewing or applique.

Badges have become highly collectable: in the UK, for example, the Badge Collectors' Circle has been in existence since 1980.

The Badges In This Lot:
- State of Florida Juvenile Detention Officer Badge: The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ) is a state agency of Florida that operates juvenile detention centers. Its headquarters are in the Knight Building in Tallahassee.

- Newport, Rhode Island Police Badge: The Newport Police Department was founded in 1882 to serve the residents of the community. The current Chief of Police is Jason Malloy.

- Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Police Patrolman Cap Badge: On March 27, 1911, the pioneer village of Fort Lauderdale, Dade County, with a population of about 250 people, was incorporated as a town. One of the first appointments made by the newly formed council in 1911 was that of Kossie A. Goodbread as first City Marshall at a salary of $40.00 per month and $1.00 for each arrest. Goodbread had been a deputy sheriff of Dade County, covering that portion of Dade from Hallandale to the Caloosahatchee River, which was the Palm Beach County line prior to being appointed as City Marshal. His enforcement equipment was a hand billy, a gun and a padlock. The padlock was to lock boxcars which were utilized as the jail for county prisoners until he could use the one telephone in town at the railway station to call Sheriff Dan Hardee in Miami to come and get the prisoner.

- State of Florida Plantation Police Chief Cap Badge: The Police Department was organized in 1955. The Council hired Henry C. Donath at an annual salary of $4,200 to work 8-hour shifts and to be on call 24-hours a day. One year later, a second policeman was hired onto the force. In 1957, the Plantation Volunteer Fire Department was founded by residents. They held a barbecue to raise funds to help offset the cost of training and equipment, a tradition that continues today.

The Parks and Recreation Department was formed along with the Plantation Athletic League (PAL). As the demand for public services increased, the need for more land for city facilities also grew. In addition to the newly built Community Center, a new building for the Library was built in 1968. Also, plans for a new City Hall were underway. The City Hall that exists today was dedicated in 1973.

During the 1970s through the 1990s, the City grew rapidly, but the warmth of Frederick Peters’ 1940s small village atmosphere remained. As thousands began to move into the City, land to the west was annexed. The City’s boundaries were now from State Road 7 to Flamingo Road, a distance of about seven miles (plus the area surrounding the Lago Mar Colony Country Club west to 136th Avenue), and from Sunrise Boulevard south to North New River Canal. The park system continued to grow with the addition of the Deicke Auditorium and Central Park.

- Fort Lauderdale Police Reserves Lieutenant Cap Badge: The Fort Lauderdale Police Department's Reserve Police Officer program allows citizens, with full-time occupations in various fields, to work as part-time officers with the agency. These individuals are fully certified part-time police officers with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and are empowered to make arrests, issue traffic citations, and investigate calls they may be dispatched to during their tour of duty.

All come more than ready for further research and display.

False representation as a law enforcement officer is completely illegal, no matter the context. An individual who wears police articles of clothing, including uniforms, IDs, patches, or buttons as a form of impersonation can be convicted of this crime as well.
